FIRST MEETING

24th June 1891

SITUATED

Over 5 miles from Portsmouth in Farlington Marshes, near to Langstone Harbour. The new course at Wymering Park was opened in the 1920's and staged pony racing until the Second World War.

DISTANCES

5 furlongs to 2 miles Flat

2 to 4 miles NH

PRINCIPAL RACE

Summer Handicap and August Plate

WORLD WAR I

Closed in 1915 after the War Office made it an ammunition dump.

WORLD WAR II

Already had closed by then.

FACT

The final race at Portsmouth saw Lough Foyle take on Fitzjames amongst others.

QUESTION

Why was there no winner of the final ever race to take place at Portsmouth?

CURRENT SITUATION

Occupied now by playing fields at Farlington, with a bridge close to the old racecourse grandstand.

LAST MEETING

As a pony racing track at Wymering Park, the final meeting took place on 23rd August 1939.
